bluebubbles Skill Overview

The BlueBubbles skill connects your AI agent to iMessage through the BlueBubbles server, OpenClaw's recommended iMessage integration. Using the message tool with channel: "bluebubbles", your agent can send texts, react with tapbacks, edit or unsend messages, reply in threads, send file attachments, trigger iMessage effects, and manage group conversations — all from a single, unified interface.

How to Use It

Step 1: Run in your terminal or install this skill on MyClaw

npx clawhub@latest install bluebubbles
or

Click the Install button at the top of this page for one-click setup

When to Use bluebubbles

Best Fit

  • You want your AI agent to send or respond to iMessages on your behalf, using a Mac running BlueBubbles as the gateway.
  • You need rich iMessage actions beyond plain send — such as tapback reactions, threaded replies, message edits, or unsend.
  • You are automating group chat management (participants, names, icons) through an AI workflow.
  • You want to send file attachments or trigger iMessage visual effects (e.g. balloons, confetti) programmatically.

When Not to Use

  • You do not have a Mac with BlueBubbles server configured and accessible — this skill requires a running BlueBubbles gateway with channels.bluebubbles set up.
  • You need to receive or read incoming iMessages; this skill focuses on sending and managing outgoing actions.
  • Some actions (e.g. message editing) may be unavailable depending on your macOS version — check compatibility before relying on those features in production.

Key Features

Send iMessages and Attachments

Send plain text messages to phone numbers, email handles, or chat GUIDs, and include file attachments with optional captions. Supports both local file paths and base64-encoded buffers.

Tapback Reactions

React to any message with an iMessage tapback emoji (e.g. ❤️, 👍) or remove an existing reaction. Reactions are applied by referencing the target message's GUID.

Edit and Unsend Messages

Correct a previously sent message by editing its content in-place, or fully retract it with an unsend action — both referencing the original message ID.

Threaded Replies

Reply directly to a specific message in a conversation thread, keeping context clear in busy group chats or long conversations.

iMessage Effects

Send messages with built-in iMessage visual effects such as balloons, confetti, or fireworks using the sendWithEffect action.

Flexible Recipient Targeting

Address conversations by chat_guid (preferred for group chats), E.164 phone number (e.g. +15551234567), or email address — giving you reliable routing across individual and group threads.

Use Cases

AI-drafted iMessage replies

Have your agent read a prompt or incoming context and automatically compose and send an iMessage reply on your behalf, including threading the response to the correct message.

Automated file delivery via iMessage

Send generated reports, images, or documents directly to a contact or group chat as an iMessage attachment, triggered by an automated workflow.

Tapback acknowledgements in workflows

Use a tapback reaction to silently acknowledge a message — for example, reacting with 👍 when a task referenced in an iMessage is completed by your agent.

Group chat management

Add or remove participants, update group names, and manage group icons programmatically as part of an onboarding or coordination workflow.

Requirements

  • BlueBubbles Gateway Config (required) — A running BlueBubbles server configured in OpenClaw under channels.bluebubbles (includes serverUrl, password, and webhookPath).
