Google Drive File Management Skill Overview

Google Drive File Management gives your AI assistant direct access to Google Drive via the gog CLI. Upload files from your workspace, download Drive content locally, search across your Drive, and share files with teammates — all through natural conversation. Install it to bring cloud file operations into your everyday assistant workflow without switching tools.

How to Use It

Step 1: Run in your terminal or install this skill on MyClaw

When to Use Google Drive File Management

Best Fit

  • You regularly move files between a local workspace and Google Drive and want to do it conversationally.
  • Your team shares documents on Drive and you need to quickly upload deliverables or share files with specific permission levels.
  • You need to search your Drive for files by keyword or type without opening a browser.
  • You want to automate or streamline routine Drive operations like listing folder contents or downloading backups.

When Not to Use

  • You do not have the gog CLI installed and authenticated — this skill requires it to function.
  • You need real-time Drive sync or continuous background monitoring; this skill handles on-demand operations only.
  • You require access to Google Workspace Admin features or Drive audit logs beyond standard file operations.

Key Features

Upload Files to Google Drive

Send any file from your local workspace to Google Drive with a single request. Optionally specify a target folder by Drive folder ID and assign a custom filename in the cloud.

Download Files by ID

Retrieve any Google Drive file using its file ID and save it to a chosen local path or your default workspace directory.

List Folder Contents

Get a paginated view of files in any Drive folder. Filter results with a search query and control how many items are returned.

Search Across Google Drive

Find files anywhere in your Drive by keyword. Narrow results by file type — documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and more — to zero in on exactly what you need.

Share Files with Teammates

Share any Drive file with a specific email address and assign a role: reader, writer, or commenter. Ideal for quickly granting access to deliverables or collaborative documents.

Selective Sync

Sync only the files and folders that matter, keeping operations lightweight and avoiding unnecessary data transfer.

Use Cases

Upload a Report for Team Review

Ask your assistant to upload a finished report from your workspace to a shared Drive folder, so the whole team has immediate access without manual steps.

Download a Backup Copy

Pull a critical Drive document down to a local backup directory by providing its file ID — useful for versioning or offline access.

Find a File Quickly

Search your entire Drive by keyword and file type to locate a specific spreadsheet or presentation without opening a browser tab.

Share a Deliverable with a Client

Provide a file ID and a client email, and the skill will grant the appropriate permission level — reader, writer, or commenter — in seconds.

Requirements

  • gog CLI — Must be installed locally and authenticated with a Google account that has access to the target Google Drive.
  • Google Account — The account used during gog CLI setup will be the default account for all Drive operations.
  • Drive Folder IDs — Optional but recommended for targeting specific folders; retrieve them from the Drive URL or drive list output.
